Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Giddens: D.

Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

On value alone, Giddens makes the weekend a net positive. Porter has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Campbell
Will Campbell at Round 1, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick38 Rnd2 Mike Green
Mike Green at the 38th overall pick is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tre Harris
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tre Harris. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Darien Porter at the 69th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick77 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
They barely believed it either: Harold Fannin Jr. still on the board at slot 77. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
The board had Carson Schwesinger higher than pick 104, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick105 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
No drama and no debate, Tez Johnson went about where he belonged in pick 105. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at Round 4, Pick 33 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jordan James
Jordan James in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168 Rnd5 Kurtis Rourke
Steal is underselling it; Kurtis Rourke at No. 168 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
A running back of that caliber at the 222nd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224 Rnd7 CJ West
A slide stopped in pick No. 224, with CJ West worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jacob Parrish
They will replay Jacob Parrish at the 234th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick240 Rnd7 Clay Webb
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at slot 240 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
