Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesD FutureA+
Larceny in the 217th overall pick lands the Patriots a B, Nesbit and all.

Call it larceny. Bryson Nesbit sat on the board until pick 217, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.

They are betting Walker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In pick 16 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in slot 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43 Rnd2 Shavon Revel Jr.
Shavon Revel Jr. at the 43rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick55 Rnd2 James Pearce Jr.
Taking James Pearce Jr. in the 55th pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in Round 3, Pick 22 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Nick Emmanwori
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 93. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick103 Rnd4 Fernando Carmona
Steal is underselling it; Fernando Carmona at No. 103 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jihaad Campbell
A slide stopped in the 139th overall pick, with Jihaad Campbell worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick217 Rnd7 Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick220 Rnd7 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis is a better player than Round 7, Pick 6 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235 Rnd7 Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke slid further than he should have, and pick 235 is lovely value for the quarterback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248 Rnd7 David Walker
David Walker at pick No. 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
