FutureC+
The Patriots lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. The Noah Thomas selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 47 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Ratledge steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick 6 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson at the 34th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at slot 38 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tate Ratledge at No. 66. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
A straight-up fair deal on Sonny Styles at pick No. 85, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98
Rnd4
Dasan McCullough
They took Dasan McCullough at par in Round 4, Pick 2, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick102
Rnd4
Devin Neal
A tidy little value on Devin Neal in the 102nd pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They talked themselves into Davison Igbinosun at Round 5, Pick 2, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick194
Rnd7
Noah Thomas
Noah Thomas at the 194th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
