FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Nwankpa: B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Xavier Nwankpa, the No. 40 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 66. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The Cornelius pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Troy Fautanu deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tre Harris
No drama and no debate, Tre Harris went about where he belonged in slot 34. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Ajani Cornelius
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ajani Cornelius. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick46
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A tidy little value on Tyler Booker in the 46th overall pick, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick66
Rnd3
Xavier Nwankpa
They barely believed it either: Xavier Nwankpa still on the board at pick No. 66. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick78
Rnd3
Tory Horton
They read the board right and Tory Horton was the payoff at the 78th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at No. 130 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick149
Rnd5
Will Lee III
Good price on Will Lee III in pick 149, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick161
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa at pick No. 161 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick194
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
They let Xavier Truss come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 2. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
