The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Giddens: D+.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how DJ Giddens got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the Round 7 slot. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

The Higgins reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Simon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and safety still on the board.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

In slot 4 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.

A straight-up fair deal on Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

They took Darien Porter at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.

They went early on Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 78, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

You do not let a running back like DJ Giddens reach pick 240 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
