Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

They banked enough surplus on Devonshire to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
