FutureB-
Cooper Jr. should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Omar Cooper Jr. slide 24 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Claiborne pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Caleb Banks graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72
Rnd3
Connor Lew
A slide stopped in the 72nd pick, with Connor Lew worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eli Stowers in slot 74. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Julian Neal
They read the board right and Julian Neal was the payoff at pick 94. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick110
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
The board fumbled Omar Cooper Jr. all the way to No. 110, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne at pick No. 125 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick130
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Blake Miller in Round 4, Pick 30 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick168
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
No edge and no loss on Tanner Koziol in the 168th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick191
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
The board had Aaron Anderson higher than the Round 6 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199
Rnd6
Brenen Thompson
A quiet steal in No. 199: Brenen Thompson for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick208
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Taylen Green slid further than he should have, and pick 208 is lovely value for the quarterback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick211
Rnd6
Isaiah Jatta
Fair-plus on Isaiah Jatta, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick246
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
They liked Ricardo Hallman enough to skip the value, taking him in the 246th pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
