FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Buccaneers. Some picks age like wine; Jalon Daniels at pick No. 197 will need to, sitting 36 spots clear of his grade.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Allen pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still on the board. That Scott pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots to take CJ Allen, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick77
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
They let Keionte Scott come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 13. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick117
Rnd4
Max Llewellyn
Value said wait; Max Llewellyn in slot 117 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick153
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Value with a capital V on Beau Stephens in pick No. 153, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson at the 193rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
A wild overpay on Jalon Daniels in pick No. 197, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
A conviction pick on Josh Cuevas at pick 229 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
