Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
Wilson should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a C.

Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Raylen Wilson, the No. 117 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They will answer for taking safety early while interior defensive lineman went begging.

If Malik Muhammad and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick13 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In No. 13 they get a three-down runner at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick26 Rnd1 Malik Muhammad
In slot 26 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in Round 2, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick48 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
Good price on Michael Taaffe in pick 48, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick109 Rnd4 Tanner Koziol
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tanner Koziol in pick No. 109. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112 Rnd4 Isaiah Nwokobia
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman to take Isaiah Nwokobia, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick148 Rnd5 Raylen Wilson
Circle this one: Raylen Wilson at the 148th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151 Rnd5 John Mateer
They let John Mateer come to them and pounced at pick No. 151. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick177 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
No edge and no loss on Bryce Foster in slot 177; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214 Rnd6 Brandon Inniss
Brandon Inniss in the 214th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
