Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Panthers, and a B- to prove it.

The Panthers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 141 on Jalen Coker a full 110 spots early.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The Bertrand value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Franklin at pick 33, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47 Rnd2 Adisa Isaac
They took Adisa Isaac at par in the 47th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 65 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101 Rnd4 Cam Hart
Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jarvis Brownlee Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jalen Coker
Jalen Coker at slot 141 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick142 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Thomas in pick 142, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
They paid sticker price for Jaheim Bell in the 166th pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240 Rnd7 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand in Round 7, Pick 20 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
