The steal of the weekend belongs to the Panthers and Reed: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jaylen Reed had no business being available in the 229th pick, and the Panthers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

If Bassa pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In slot 8 they get a disruptive interior force, though they paid up to get him.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at Round 2, Pick 25 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A tidy little value on Andrew Mukuba in pick 74, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
They reached into another round for Jeffrey Bassa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at No. 113 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick141 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
A tidy bit of business in the 141st pick, where Darius Alexander graded well above the range. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick147 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in the 147th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick164 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
They will replay Jaylen Reed at Round 7, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
