Obsesseddd DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueA

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Panthers bet the future on Ward. The board says B. Somebody in the 233rd pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Xavier Restrepo, the No. 22 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Whatever Cam Ward becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In pick No. 9 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Somehow Walter Nolen was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 15, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tre Harris
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to No. 71, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick107
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at pick 107 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at Round 4, Pick 10 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140
Rnd5
Josaiah Stewart
They will replay Josaiah Stewart at pick No. 140 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jermari Harris
A cornerback of that caliber at the 147th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick162
Rnd5
Kyle Kennard
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Kyle Kennard in the 162nd overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
Xavier Restrepo
They robbed the room for Xavier Restrepo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick256
Rnd7
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in Round 7, Pick 42 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
