Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Panthers and Gordon II: B.

Call it larceny. Ollie Gordon II sat on the board until No. 256, and the Panthers did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Milroe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick No. 13 they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jalen Milroe
A reach on Jalen Milroe in pick 44; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick47 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
Nice patience on Isaiah Bond, who had no business lasting to No. 47. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the 71st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick107 Rnd4 Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at slot 107. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick140 Rnd5 Deontae Lawson
They robbed the room for Deontae Lawson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick147 Rnd5 Sebastian Castro
You do not let a safety like Sebastian Castro reach Round 5, Pick 9 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick162 Rnd5 Omarr Norman-Lott
A straight-up fair deal on Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 162, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick222 Rnd7 Barrett Carter
Somehow Barrett Carter was still sitting there in slot 222, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233 Rnd7 Xavier Nwankpa
Taking Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick256 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at No. 256 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
