Mullings should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a A-. Thirty-one other rooms let Kalel Mullings slide, and the Panthers were the ones holding the card at slot 193. Highway robbery. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
If Walker pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Panthers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 13th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. More want than need.
Pick39
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A safety of that caliber at slot 39 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in Round 3, Pick 1 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in No. 70 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at the 139th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Bear Alexander
No edge and no loss on Bear Alexander in pick 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick No. 159 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick193
Rnd6
Kalel Mullings
Somehow Kalel Mullings was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at pick 217 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
By-the-book stuff, Garrett Dellinger at the 231st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
