James should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a D.

The Panthers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. James falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Panthers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
