Platoon Daddy DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Panthers, and a B to prove it. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Panthers walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Getting Arnold where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If Goncalves pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
They read the board right and Terrion Arnold was the payoff at pick 33. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick101
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A conviction pick on Matt Goncalves at slot 101 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick142
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
No drama and no debate, Luke McCaffrey went about where he belonged in No. 142. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
A clean, defensible pick in the 166th pick with a little surplus value in Tykee Smith. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
They jumped the gun on Kimani Vidal, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
