The Panthers cashed the board's mistake on Allar: A-. When a board-topper like Drew Allar slides to pick 143, you do not overthink it, and the Panthers did not.
They will need Moore to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
In the end it comes back to Makai Lemon, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In slot 23 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick70
Rnd3
Caleb Lomu
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 6, where Caleb Lomu graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick105
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Lance at No. 105, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at pick 143 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193
Rnd6
Trey Moore
Trey Moore at the 193rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
They paid sticker price for Xavier Nwankpa in the 199th pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
No drama and no debate, Smith Snowden went about where he belonged in pick No. 227. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
