Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B

FutureB-
The Panthers robbed the room for Barton. Final grade: B. Somebody in pick 220 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Lander Barton, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In No. 4 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Mike Green
A quiet steal in the 50th overall pick: Mike Green for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at slot 72 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108
Rnd4
Donovan Ezeiruaku
You do not let an edge rusher like Donovan Ezeiruaku reach Round 4, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Nice patience on Kevin Winston Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 113. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
They will replay Luke Kandra at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the 155th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in pick No. 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jonah Coleman
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Coleman at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
