The tape said wait; the Panthers did not. CJ West went at pick 163, a good 51 picks before the board was ready. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
