Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Panthers. The Panthers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Kai Kroeger at the Round 7 slot regardless, 44 picks early.
The Winston Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 8 they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A wild overpay on Savion Williams in slot 74, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in Round 4, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick113
Rnd4
Kobe King
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kobe King in the 113th overall pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick141
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Winston Jr. at the 141st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in pick No. 147 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick164
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
A big swing on Cobee Bryant at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kai Kroeger well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
