Draft Grade — Panthers

Grand theft in pick No. 164: the Panthers steal Fitzgerald and grade out a B-. The board owed the Panthers one, and it paid up: Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 119 name on the board, sitting there at slot 164 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Kroeger has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 8 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in No. 57 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 110 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Circle this one: Andrew Mukuba at the 113th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 5, Pick 2 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick147
Rnd5
Kobe King
A slide stopped in the 147th overall pick, with Kobe King worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Ryan Fitzgerald
The board fumbled Ryan Fitzgerald all the way to slot 164, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick229
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kai Kroeger in the 229th overall pick, miles early. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
