There is reaching, and then there is Zane Durant at Round 7, Pick 20. The Panthers jumped the board by 54 and dared it to prove them wrong.

The Nelson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
