Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Panthers: B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Panthers took Kevin Winston Jr. at the 147th pick, roughly 55 spots before his name belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Carter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at No. 47 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at slot 71 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Good price on Nicholas Singleton in Round 4, Pick 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick111
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
They liked Rylie Mills enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 111. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jalen Catalon
Jalen Catalon at pick No. 140 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
A big swing on Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davison Igbinosun well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick222
Rnd7
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at No. 222 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the 233rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A slide stopped in pick 256, with Garrett Dellinger worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
