Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B

The Panthers cashed the board's mistake on Singleton: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in the 145th overall pick, and the Panthers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

Durant has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 8th pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick54 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach slot 54 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
Taking Jihaad Campbell in the 74th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 110 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick113 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at pick 113 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick139 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A big swing on Zane Durant at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick145 Rnd5 Nicholas Singleton
They will replay Nicholas Singleton at Round 5, Pick 8 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick162 Rnd5 Kobe King
Kobe King in No. 162 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the 227th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
