Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D
ValueC-
NeedA-
TradesF
FutureB-
The Panthers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The phones were a trap the Panthers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Carter pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Drew Allar
A big swing on Drew Allar at No. 54, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Rod Moore
No drama and no debate, Rod Moore went about where he belonged in slot 65. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick97
Rnd4
Jacobee Bryant
They did well to land Jacobee Bryant in the 97th pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129
Rnd5
Derrick Moore
They paid sticker price for Derrick Moore in Round 5, Pick 1, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick161
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
By-the-book stuff, DJ Campbell at pick No. 161 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
