Allenwilson21 DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Panthers. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Panthers did exactly that with Theo Johnson in pick 102. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. However the rest shakes out, Thomas Jr. at that price is a win they earned.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
A premium they did not need to pay, Xavier Legette a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141
Rnd5
AJ Barner
Value said wait; AJ Barner in pick No. 141 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick165
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in slot 165; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at Round 6, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
