Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Panthers: B-. The war room fell hard for Brian Ugwu, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 193 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
They banked enough surplus on Stutsman to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
They did well to land Tetairoa McMillan in pick No. 8, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the 57th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Savion Williams well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick109
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Danny Stutsman in No. 109, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick112
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore is a better player than slot 112 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Collin Oliver
A real head-scratcher, Collin Oliver in the 139th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick145
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Nothing to complain about; Oronde Gadsden II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin in slot 162 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Brian Ugwu
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brian Ugwu. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
