Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureC
The Panthers won the night they stopped Stout from sliding. Grade: B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Upton Stout tumbling to the Panthers in Round 7, Pick 14 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Every board in the league had Wilson lower, and that gap is the story. The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 41 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick57 Rnd2 Darien Porter
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darien Porter this early at No. 57. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wilson in the 80th pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at Round 5, Pick 2 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Tahj Brooks
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Brooks at the 163rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230 Rnd7 Upton Stout
They barely believed it either: Upton Stout still on the board at slot 230. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
