Draft Grade — Packers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 43 spots for Nathaniel Watson, and value like that does not grow back. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Clark steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 20 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick52 Rnd2 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at slot 52 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick57 Rnd2 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 57 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick88 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the 88th overall pick on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick91 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 28, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Fair-plus on Blake Fisher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick126 Rnd4 Tyrice Knight
The board had Tyrice Knight higher than pick 126, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick168 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
Value with a capital V on Theo Johnson in the 168th pick, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick170 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in the 170th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in No. 203 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
They talked themselves into Nathaniel Watson at slot 216, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick243 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in Round 7, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251 Rnd7 Chad Lindberg
Chad Lindberg in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
