Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureA+
The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Cole Payton, 80 picks early at the 158th overall pick.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Hill Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 6 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jacob Rodriguez
They talked themselves into Jacob Rodriguez at the 39th pick, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Anthony Hill Jr. at linebacker with edge rusher open.
Pick70
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
They took Elijah Sarratt at par in the 70th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick84
Rnd3
Bryce Lance
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bryce Lance well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick107
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A reach on Davison Igbinosun in pick 107; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kaleb Proctor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kaleb Proctor this early at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Cole Payton
Value said wait; Cole Payton in the 158th pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Aiden Fisher
This one needs a full-page explanation: Aiden Fisher in the 199th overall pick, miles early. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick236
Rnd7
CJ Donaldson
CJ Donaldson at No. 236 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
Jack Kelly at Round 7, Pick 38 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick257
Rnd7
Riley Nowakowski
They liked Riley Nowakowski enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 257. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
