Draft Grade — Packers

FutureA
The Packers let Mayes fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and BJ Mayes fell into No. 217. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The Ogunbiyi reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In slot 22 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau slid further than he should have, and the 43rd overall pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Good price on Caelen Carson in the 73rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick No. 82 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A surprising call. With quarterback, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent pick 83 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick109
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick135
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at Round 4, Pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick187
Rnd6
Will Shipley
A running back of that caliber at the 187th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217
Rnd6
BJ Mayes
BJ Mayes at No. 217 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd6
Aki Ogunbiyi
Aki Ogunbiyi in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230
Rnd7
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at Round 7, Pick 10 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
