Draft Grade — Packers
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Packers, and a C+ to match.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 202 on Carson Steele, a name most had 123 spots down the list.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

If Cooper DeJean and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at the 25th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 9. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58 Rnd2 Cole Bishop
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cole Bishop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick88 Rnd3 Elijah Jones
They talked themselves into Elijah Jones at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
A wild overpay on Blake Fisher in the 91st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126 Rnd4 Trevin Wallace
A real head-scratcher, Trevin Wallace in slot 126 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick169 Rnd5 Khristian Boyd
They paid a round early for Khristian Boyd in the 169th pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick202 Rnd6 Carson Steele
Carson Steele in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick219 Rnd6 Donovan Jennings
Donovan Jennings at the 219th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245 Rnd7 Trajan Jeffcoat
Trajan Jeffcoat at No. 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
No edge and no loss on Tyler Owens in Round 7, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
