Pack a Day 1 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-. The Packers did not so much draft Trey Taylor as overpay for him, 54 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That McGlothern pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 25th pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
A safety of that caliber at No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in slot 88 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Trey Benson
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 28. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A want over a need in pick 127: Tykee Smith adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
They reached into another round for Kimani Vidal, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick251
Rnd7
Dallas Gant
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallas Gant. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
