Pack a Day 1 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Robinson: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Chop Robinson had no business being available in slot 88, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Mettauer reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Nubin at the 41st overall pick is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick88
Rnd3
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at No. 88 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tykee Smith at safety with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
Pick125
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Kamal Hadden
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in pick 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick203
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at pick No. 203. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick217
Rnd6
Christian Jones
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach the 217th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matthew Jones. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick246
Rnd7
McKade Mettauer
A real head-scratcher, McKade Mettauer in No. 246 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
