Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Matthew Jones a full 39 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

Landing Bertrand that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In slot 25 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at the 41st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick88 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in No. 88, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Nice patience on Mike Sainristil, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd at pick 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Malik Mustapha adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick203 Rnd6 Matthew Jones
They reached into another round for Matthew Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick217 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
They barely believed it either: JD Bertrand still on the board at the 217th overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick219 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Value said wait; Dwight McGlothern in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220 Rnd6 Joshua Cephus
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Cephus in pick No. 220, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick246 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
They paid a round early for Walter Rouse in the 246th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Wedig this early at No. 247. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
