Good, not great, for the Packers: B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Matthew Jones. He came off 25 spots early, and the room will hear about it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
It is not that Kinchens is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. On value alone, Davis makes the weekend a net positive.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In slot 30 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kamren Kinchens at safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick88
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice is a better player than Round 3, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A quiet steal in No. 91: Christian Haynes for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick93
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Marist Liufau, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick125
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Cam Hart
By-the-book stuff, Cam Hart at the 135th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick203
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at slot 203 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in pick 217 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 44, with Jawhar Jordan worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220
Rnd6
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at pick No. 220 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick246
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
They paid a round early for Dwight McGlothern in No. 246, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
