FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Cal Haladay in the 216th pick.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wallace pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In pick 25 they get a rangy last line of defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 41 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick57
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cooper Beebe. It fills a real need, too.
Pick93
Rnd3
Audric Estime
Audric Estime in Round 3, Pick 30 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Mason McCormick
No drama and no debate, Mason McCormick went about where he belonged in the 99th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
They talked themselves into Dylan Laube at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
The board had cheaper options than Luke McCaffrey at No. 129, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162
Rnd5
Michael Barrett
A real head-scratcher, Michael Barrett in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick164
Rnd5
Sheridan Jones
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sheridan Jones well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
They jumped the gun on Jaylan Ford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick203
Rnd6
Carson Steele
Carson Steele at the 203rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216
Rnd6
Cal Haladay
A wild overpay on Cal Haladay in the 216th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick243
Rnd7
Josh Wallace
The board fumbled Josh Wallace all the way to pick No. 243, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick246
Rnd7
Isaac Rex
Value said wait; Isaac Rex in slot 246 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Taylor at pick 251, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
