Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
C-
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers did enough to get by: C-. Some picks age like wine; Chris Johnson Jr. at pick 234 will need to, sitting 216 spots clear of his grade.
Getting Anderson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
If Jyaire Hill and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jyaire Hill
In pick No. 21 they get a press-man option on the boundary, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 53 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick85
Rnd3
Adepoju Adebawore
A wild overpay on Adepoju Adebawore in the 85th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121
Rnd4
Antonio Kite
They talked themselves into Antonio Kite at slot 121, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Circle this one: Aaron Anderson at Round 5, Pick 22 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick199
Rnd6
Kevin Jennings
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Jennings at No. 199. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Chris Johnson Jr.
Chris Johnson Jr. at No. 234 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
