FutureB-
Williams should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a D. Somebody took the Packers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They are betting Thornton Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In slot 23 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick26
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
They paid a round early for Landon Jackson in pick No. 26, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick54
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
The board fumbled Luther Burden III all the way to No. 54, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cameron Williams
Circle this one: Cameron Williams at the 124th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 159 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick190
Rnd6
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at the 198th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick250
Rnd7
Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley at the 250th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
