Larceny in No. 194 lands the Packers a B-, Noel and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Jaylin Noel, the No. 101 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 194.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 23rd overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A real need, handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
By-the-book stuff, Azareye'h Thomas at pick No. 62 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Darien Porter graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at No. 123 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
Taking Kyle McCord in slot 160 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel in pick 194 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200
Rnd6
Cobee Bryant
You do not let a cornerback like Cobee Bryant reach Round 6, Pick 22 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
A straight-up fair deal on Hayden Conner at the 202nd pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan slipping to the 239th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kevin Jennings
No drama and no debate, Kevin Jennings went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 33. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
