JDHAYES DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers. When a board-topper like Trevin Wallace slides to pick No. 255, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the Goncalves reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
They took Cooper DeJean at par in the 25th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58
Rnd2
Max Melton
Max Melton at No. 58 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at slot 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
A big swing on Matt Goncalves at pick No. 91, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Kalen King
They went early on Kalen King in the 126th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick169
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
A tidy bit of business in the 169th pick, where Sione Vaki graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick219
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick245
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
They paid a round early for Kimani Vidal in pick 245, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick255
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
The board fumbled Trevin Wallace all the way to pick No. 255, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
