Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA FutureB-
Giddens should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a B+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: DJ Giddens, the No. 169 name on the board, stolen at the 239th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Martin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Trey Amos
A tidy little value on Trey Amos in the 55th pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They took Donovan Jackson at par in slot 87, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Phillips at No. 123. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick124 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
They let Lathan Ransom come to them and pounced at the 124th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonah Monheim at the Round 5 slot is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200 Rnd6 Nick Nash
Taking Nick Nash in pick No. 200 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
A running back of that caliber at pick 239 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251 Rnd7 Nick Martin
They paid a round early for Nick Martin in pick 251, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
