The Packers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. Nobody else had Jackson Woodard anywhere near the Round 6 slot. The Packers did, by 133 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The final tally is a middling C.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McMillan. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In No. 23 they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tetairoa McMillan
Taking Tetairoa McMillan in pick No. 54 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick63
Rnd2
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at the 63rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
A reach on Barrett Carter in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jackson Slater. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122
Rnd4
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at Round 4, Pick 20 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A premium they did not need to pay, Mello Dotson a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159
Rnd5
Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty in pick No. 159 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jackson Woodard
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Woodard in pick 197 is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick198
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at Round 6, Pick 22 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick208
Rnd6
Ahmed Hassanein
Ahmed Hassanein at No. 208 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick218
Rnd7
Addison West
No drama and no debate, Addison West went about where he belonged in the 218th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
They talked themselves into LaJohntay Wester at slot 226, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jimmy Horn Jr.
A wild overpay on Jimmy Horn Jr. in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick242
Rnd7
Will Sheppard
A big swing on Will Sheppard at No. 242, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick250
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith at the 250th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
They reached into another round for Jalen Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick257
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Value said wait; Shilo Sanders in the 257th overall pick says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
