Draft Grade — Packers

The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Eric Gentry at the 236th overall pick is 32 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Orange value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese is a better player than No. 16 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at slot 52 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange slipping to pick No. 84 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They talked themselves into Davison Igbinosun at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick158
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
They jumped the gun on Pat Coogan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in Round 6, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford at Round 6, Pick 30 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in pick No. 236 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick254
Rnd7
Colbie Young
Fair-plus on Colbie Young, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
Rueben Owens II at the 257th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
