Draft Grade — Packers

FutureB+
The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent slot 236 on Mitchell Melton, a name most had 67 spots down the list. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Igbinosun pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick52
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the 52nd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Julian Neal at No. 84. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in slot 120 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick158
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at the 158th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
They took Bryce Foster at par in Round 6, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick206
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 206 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236
Rnd7
Mitchell Melton
Mitchell Melton at the 236th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick254
Rnd7
Fred Davis II
A premium they did not need to pay, Fred Davis II a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at No. 257 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
