Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Packers lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Mitchell Melton, taking him 67 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Pavia that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Colton Hood
In the 30th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Christen Miller at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They read the board right and Jake Slaughter was the payoff at pick 52. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They paid up for Caden Curry at the 84th pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at slot 94 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at pick No. 120 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick130
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
A reasonable price with a little left over, Hezekiah Masses in pick 130. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick158
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
Nice patience on Ted Hurst, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick199
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling in pick No. 199 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick206
Rnd6
Diego Pavia
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Diego Pavia at the 206th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236
Rnd7
Mitchell Melton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mitchell Melton in the 236th pick, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
No drama and no debate, Jordan Hall went about where he belonged in No. 243. It fills a real need, too.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ja'Keem Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Keem Jackson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254
Rnd7
Micah Morris
They let Micah Morris come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 38. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick257
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A reach on Eric Gentry in No. 257; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
