Allar should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Packers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Casey reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They banked enough surplus on Allar to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
By-the-book stuff, Kayden McDonald at Round 1, Pick 22 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick 52 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick90
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
The board had Malik Muhammad higher than the Round 3 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kage Casey
Kage Casey at No. 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick158
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Circle this one: Drew Allar at the 158th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
They paid up for Jerry Wilson at slot 199 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trey Holly
A reach for Trey Holly in the 236th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick254
Rnd7
Ja'Keem Jackson
Ja'Keem Jackson in pick 254 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick257
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A reach on Eric Gentry in pick No. 257; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
