Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent the 132nd overall pick on Vincent Anthony Jr., a name most had 61 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Reese at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick64 Rnd2 Rod Moore
They paid sticker price for Rod Moore in pick No. 64, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick96 Rnd3 Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton at pick 96 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick126 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
A clean, defensible pick in the 126th overall pick with a little surplus value in Zachariah Branch. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick132 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. in No. 132 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They went early on Xavier Nwankpa in the 172nd pick, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at Round 6, Pick 14 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick195 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Aamil Wagner at the 195th pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick201 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in pick 201 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick212 Rnd6 Cam Calhoun
No drama and no debate, Cam Calhoun went about where he belonged in slot 212. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick247 Rnd7 Brandon Inniss
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Inniss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
