Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

The Steelers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.

Getting Jennings where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The cost of the Zuhn III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 9 of 9 of the wish list covered.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
No drama and no debate, D'Angelo Ponds went about where he belonged in No. 53. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
Fair-plus on Brian Parker II, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick85 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at the 85th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
A straight-up fair deal on Jacob Rodriguez at pick 99, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
By-the-book stuff, Jalon Kilgore at slot 112 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in the 117th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick121 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
A reasonable price with a little left over, CJ Daniels in slot 135. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun is a better player than the 159th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in No. 174, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177 Rnd5 Trey Zuhn III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Zuhn III this early at the 177th overall pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fernando Carmona. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick214 Rnd6 Joey Aguilar
No edge and no loss on Joey Aguilar in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada in Round 6, Pick 36 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick221 Rnd7 Keyron Crawford
They took Keyron Crawford at par in pick 221, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick224 Rnd7 Kevin Jennings
They will replay Kevin Jennings at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick225 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
Rueben Owens II at pick 225 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at pick No. 237 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
