Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers let Green fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Taylen Green at pick 214 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

Reaching for Zuhn III left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 20th pick they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
A straight-up fair deal on Nyck Harbor at pick 51, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79 Rnd3 LaNorris Sellers
LaNorris Sellers in the 79th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick84 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at slot 84 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Whit Weeks
No edge and no loss on Whit Weeks in pick No. 99; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at Round 4, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
A slide stopped in No. 133, with Tacario Davis worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick213 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
They reached a country mile for Trey Zuhn III at No. 213, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick214 Rnd6 Taylen Green
You do not let a quarterback like Taylen Green reach the 214th pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jaren Kanak
By-the-book stuff, Jaren Kanak at pick 219 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
They talked themselves into Pat Coogan at Round 7, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
